One Thing Daily

We all have goals. Big, small, long term, short term… we’ve got ’em. And these goals always require steps to be taken to ensure that the specific end results are met.  Goals can’t be achieved, with out those special steps leading up to them. But let’s be honest my dear… sometimes we don’t have the slightest clue as to what we need to do in order to meet these goals and make our dreams a reality. Do you ever feel that way?

I do. I’ve been there. In fact, I’m still there. I know what I want, but how the heck do I conquer it? If I knew I’d have gotten it by now, right?

This is true for most of us. If we knew the direction we needed to be in, the doors we needed to knock on, and the stones we needed to over turn to be successful, we would all do it. Easy as pie.

But, we don’t always have a clue.

Lately, I have started forcing myself to do what I like to call OTD or One Thing Daily. OTD is one step, no matter the size, in the assumed direction of making my dreams come true. Every day, I do one thing… something that moves me towards the end results that I want. It is anything that could possibly add up to success.

Now, I know this may sound like a no brainer. “Duh Erin, of course you need to DO things in order to ensure you’re successful. You can’t win the lottery, with out getting your ass up off the couch and to the store to purchase a ticket.”

Well, I GET that smarty pants. But what about the steps that aren’t obvious? Getting to the store to buy a lottery ticket is a pretty clear step in the right direction… but what if your end results are preceded by a less obvious path?

For example, let me share one of my goals. I’d like to be a successful MMA reporter (think Megan Olivi or Karyn Bryant) and I’d like to host my own MMA related TV show. Now, I know what I want, but how the hell do I get it to happen?

Enter the OTD. 🙂 One thing every single day that keeps the end result on my mind and keeps me moving towards it. My OTD can be as simple as 15 minutes of research on the web, or as ballzy and big as taking out a loan. One thing, every day, no matter what.

The idea behind OTD is that action, any action, is continually happening. Even if your OTD leads to a closed door, the idea is that you are doing your best to move in the direction that seems correct. And even if you move in the “wrong” direction, you still receive guidance, observations and lessons that will allow you to make the correct (and legal) U-turn, to get back in the direction you need to be.

Action. Movement. Work. The more you do, the more opportunities there are for life’s magic to be able to reach you.

So, you crazy over achiever you, may I suggest that you commit to doing OTD. Big or small, no matter what day of the week it is. Get the vibrations shaking in your favor every day. Once a week isn’t enough, it has got to be every single day. This sends a strong message to the universe and to yourself that, “Hey! I really do want this! And I’m going to do the work to make it mine.” And as you do OTD, watch the doors of opportunity and success swing wide open… wide enough for you to prance on thru. After all, your celebratory party awaits, hot stuff. Put on your party dress. 🙂
