Piracanga 2: Tree pose and MapQuest

My yoga instructor Jess said to us in class the other day that, “you need to have roots in order to grow.” Instantly, I repeated it in my head and engraved it into my memory. What a cool philosophy. I’m sure she didn’t mean it to be taken the way I took it… we were in Tree pose, working on grounding our feet down (our roots) and then lengthening up and out (our growth). But I decided to take that phrase right out of the yoga pose and into my own special lesson. Now, here I am making a posting about it. Lucky you guys. 😉

Okay, so let’s break this down. Roots are a starting point. A foundation. A necessity for life. And in order to build, expand or grow, you need a foundation.

So then… what are your roots? Are your roots your family or your support system? Are your roots your goals and intentions? You need to identify that foundation so you have a place to “grow” from… a place to build off of.

It’s a cool thing if you think of it from a goal-setting point of view… which ya’ll know, I have a love affair with setting goals. Let’s say you have big “things” you want to work to accomplish. Hard work and dedication are generally apart of the equation for success… but, what else?

Ding ding ding! You guessed it… It helps to identify where you are, what your foundation is, and what your roots are, in order to move forward. Think of MapQuest or the GPS in your car. It always makes you enter in the starting point in order to enter in and get to the address of your final destination. Otherwise, how is it supposed to know how to get you there? The same is with life. You need roots – a starting point, a foundation – to go from.  Then, the magic can begin and you can start moving forward. Well, giddy up to that.

Just my sexylicious thoughts. 🙂

Sending love, hugs, and buttslaps,

McDooogs xoxo
