Day of 8 of my grateful project, I would like to share my thankfulness and gratefulness for a 3 month adventure in Albuquerque, NM.
Last March, I traveled from my home in Canada to the USA, in order to train at Jackson/Winkeljohn MMA gym in Albuquerque, NM. This gym is home to so many stars of the sport… You can’t swing a dead cat around there, with out hitting someone who fights for the UFC or Strikeforce.
Three months training there flew by. I improved so much though, by working with the girls at the gym everyday. It was the first time in my career that I was actually able to train with other females. Not to mention females of my size.
When I’m asked to name a favorite part of the whole adventure, I can easily answer that Julie Kedzie was the highlight of the trip for me. Working with her was amazing. Obviously my skill set wasn’t (and still isn’t) anywhere near hers… but I grew and learnt so much by being able to partner with her, day in and day out.
With out a doubt, I plan on going back.
I am so thankful I was able to experience training with the athletes at Jacksons… It was eye opening and life changing. And as scary and as hard as it was to move out of my comfort zone everyday to take beatings from the worlds best, I wouldn’t change a thing and I definitely can’t wait to do it again.
Sending love, hugs and buttslaps…
